The Best Red Carpet Jewelry from the 2017 Emmy Awards

By Erin Ollila

Award shows are always entertaining, but there's nothing better than watching the arrivals to see what all the stars are wearing before everything begins. The looks of the night are dictated by the dresses and red carpet jewelry, and there are some definite trends from this year's 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Do you want to copy these showstoppers? Try one of these looks for your next big event:

Statement Earrings

Stars such as Sofia Vergara, Leslie Jones, and Regina King wore statement earrings that drew emphasis to their beautiful faces. These wham-bam, in-your-face earrings paired well with Vergara's and Jones' strapless plunging necklines and Jones' sheer overlay, proving earrings alone are sometimes all you need to complete an outfit, especially if it shows some skin.

Diamond Drop Earrings

Just because big, loud earrings were plentiful at this year's Emmys doesn't mean simple diamond drop earrings didn't hold their own. Stars such as Jessica Biel, Evan Rachel Wood, Ajiona Alexus, and Gina Rodriguez dazzled with their choice of earrings.

The Backlace

Jane Fonda proved that with age comes style, and yes, it's possible to be even more glamorous now than she was as a former fashion model. Fonda's jewelry didn't need to compete with her understated pink, long-sleeve gown and her hair in a simple high ponytail and bangs. However, the jewelry she wore is what really stood out. Her earrings and down-her-back necklace are rumored to have taken 600 hours and 10 master artisans to create, according to People.

Mismatched Earrings

The trend of mismatched earrings continues, and it's certainly welcome. Both Kiernan Shipka's and Madeline Brewer's red carpet jewelry included earrings that didn't match but looked as if they belonged together forever.

Dainty Diamonds

Zoë Kravitz, Mandy Moore, and Yvonne Strahovski all embraced the traditional look of a diamond choker necklace and earrings for their red carpet jewelry. However, don't be fooled into thinking these accessories blended in to the look, giving the dress center stage. If anything, their understated choice in red carpet jewelry brought more attention to the gorgeous stones. Other stars such as Edie Falco, Kate McKinnon, and Shailene Woodley also wore light touches of diamonds to complete their entire look.

Jeweled Dresses

We're accustomed to sparkling dresses, but what happens when the accessories are built right into the ensemble? Nicole Kidman wowed the crowd with her scarlet red silk dress that had a plunging neckline outlined by asymmetrical crystal straps. She wasn't alone: Priyanka Chopra, Claire Foy, and many other guests showed up with dresses that had jewels worked into their designs.

This year's Emmy Awards was another opportunity for today's biggest stars to shine, and shine they did—with a little help from gorgeous jewelry.
