Traditionally, when it comes to planning a wedding the groom-to-be is least concerned with his own wedding band selection. However, in recent years the men's wedding bands market has begun to rapidly expand in everything from design styles to available metal types.
So, instead of making this process an afterthought, here are some tips for catching up with all of men’s band fashion trends that are popular today.
New Metal Types
Conventionally, men’s (and women’s) wedding bands were fashioned and created from yellow or white gold; however, due to the hands-on nature of men’s lifestyles, in recent years jewelry brands have pushed for selections created from more durable metals.
Why? As classic and beautiful as gold is, it is also extremely soft and prone to damage. As a result, wedding bands for men made from heavier metals such as platinum, cobalt, titanium and tungsten have become very popular. Titanium in particular is extremely popular due to its light feeling (almost feeling like you aren't wearing a ring, which many men like), but all of these metal types withstand damage well. In addition, they are mostly scratch and dent resistant and will uphold their luster...leaving them as beautiful years down the road as the day you purchase it.
In addition to the durability of alternate metals in men’s bands, they also generally come with a much more attainable price point. Cobalt and titanium in particular are therefore becoming popular choices for men who want the appearance of a platinum, but are looking to save some money in the process.
Dark Colors & Designs
Men are also increasingly moving away from the look of "silver" bands – coloring that is found in white gold, platinum, and many titanium and cobalt metals. Instead many men are choosing dark colored wedding bands – dark grey or black in color – that are found in darker titaniums and tungsten in particular. These dark looks are also popular rings seen on celebrity grooms...helping to boost their popularity among men in general.
In addition, many of these rings are also made with more unique looks – actually giving men options when it comes to the design of their ring. It is common to find men’s bands that have designs ranging from subtle etchings or markings to more bold looks, including diamonds.
